Carolyn Gilligan has a deep connection to moving water and she finds watercolor is the perfect medium to use to paint water. Ocean shorelines, waterfalls, and streams, are a few of the subjects she has painted to show the beauty of water in motion. Carolyn has been painting in watercolor since her collage days and has learned to both control it and let it do beautiful things on paper or a plastic kind of paper called Yupo. Yupo does not absorb paint. That means brighter color and less control, at least at first. Carolyn has discovered new techniques that yield exciting effects. By layering semitransparent Yupo with an under paper she has found a way to show what is under water.
